Delvin’s Financial Compliance, Navy Leadership prove invaluable to Sea Services
As Chief Executive Officer, Gordon Videll faces many difficult decisions daily with Sea Services North America, the nation’s leading fishermen’s cooperative. Hiring Craig Devlin wasn’t one of them.
“Frankly,” Videll said, “it’s an honor to have Craig with us. You won’t find many more impressive backgrounds.”
Devlin, SSNA’s Chief Operating Officer, brings years of knowledge and experience in the finance industry as well as a distinguished military background.
“I had retired and was approached by Gordon about doing some consulting with Sea Services,” Devlin said. “Once I understood the company, it became clear that this was a win, win, win for commercial fishermen, offshore wind developers and interested parties of local, state and the federal government. Having spent time on the water, the safety message really resonated with me.”
Prior to joining Sea Services, Devlin spent the last 28 years at Fidelity Investments in progressively senior roles within Security and Compliance, primarily in the areas of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Fraud.
“Craig works well with our crews, and understands a life at sea,” said Gary Yerman, SSNA Founder, Fleet Manager and a veteran commercial fisherman. “We have more than 120 fishermen working out of seven states and he keeps everything running smoothly on all of our projects.”
Over the course of his career, he built several operational groups, including Fidelity’s Financial Intelligence Unit, a combined group focusing on all aspects of AML and fraud including prevention, detection and response.
Other responsibilities with Fidelity included Trading Surveillance Technology, Operational Risk Management, Sanctions, Privacy, Due Diligence Investigations, Vendor Risk Management, Business Continuity, Records Management, and employee background investigations.
Devlin also has significant international experience, having served as the Head of Investigations and Intelligence for Fidelity International Limited (UK based), serving the world outside of the US and Canada. Craig presented before regulators in numerous jurisdictions while on assignment at FIL.
His status at Fidelity led to an extensive network within the financial services sector, leading to his role as a board member (Treasurer and Deputy Chairman) of the International Banking Security Association (IBSA) for many years.
He began his professional career in the US Navy where he served as a shipboard division officer and department head on a fast frigate, and later as an instructor at the Surface Warfare Officers School, a part of the Naval War College command in Newport, Rhode Island.
Devlin has an undergraduate degree from the College of the Holy Cross, where he attended on an NROTC scholarship, and an MBA (Beta Gamma Sigma) from Suffolk University. Craig previously held FINRA series 7 and 24 licenses and a Top-Secret Clearance while serving in the US Navy. He served as a mentor at American Corporate Partners, which seeks to integrate military veterans into civilian careers. In his free time, Craig enjoys boating and fishing, and played rugby for nearly 30 years, including with the United States Combined Services Rugby team where he faced high-level international competition.
